Take 2 gathering professions (mining and skinning work well). Use auctioneer to monitor prices and help set what you should sell the ore and skins for. Auction full stacks of cloth as you get them.
Make sure you have enough bag space so you can actually carry a fair amount of stuff.
Put any greens and blues that you get into the auction house. If they are soulbound quest rewards, vendor them.
Collect as much trash as you can and vendor that.

I would agree that you should choose 2 gathering professions. I use Mining and Herbalism. You can sell your raw materials at the AH, and make good money!
Also..sell…sell…sell….whatever you come across…sell it to a vendor or at the AH.
